Refrigerator buying guide: capacity, star rating and door type
By Pappu, Pappu Electric Stores · Published · Updated

Single door, double door or deep freezer? How many litres your family really needs, and why the star rating matters more than the sticker price.
As a rough guide, one or two people are comfortable with 150 to 200 litres, a family of three or four with 250 to 350 litres, and larger families or those who buy in bulk with 400 litres or more.
Single door fridges are simple and economical. Double door models keep the freezer separate and usually stay cooler for longer, and are better where voltage varies or power cuts are common if paired with a stabilizer.
Check the BEE star rating - a higher rating costs more upfront but saves on electricity over the years. Also check that the fridge will fit through your door and into the space you have, with a little room behind for ventilation.
