How to choose the right ceiling fan: size, speed and power use

Sweep size, motor type and star rating decide how well a fan cools and how much it adds to your bill. Here is a simple way to choose.
Match the sweep (blade span) to the room. A 900 mm fan suits small rooms up to about 100 sq ft, 1200 mm suits most bedrooms and halls, and 1400 mm suits large halls. Too small a fan will never cool a big room properly.
BLDC fans use about half the electricity of ordinary fans and run well on inverters, which makes them a good choice if you have long power cuts or run the fan for many hours. They cost more upfront but the saving shows up on the bill.
Check the bearing type, the quality of the winding and the warranty. Tell us your room size and how many hours you use the fan and we will suggest a model.
