Inverter and battery guide: what size do you need for your home?

Add up what you want to run during a power cut, then pick the inverter VA and battery capacity to match. A simple method that avoids buying too small or too big.
List the items you want to run in a power cut - fans, lights, TV, router - and add up their watts. Keep a margin of about 25 percent. For a few fans, lights and a TV, a 900 VA to 1100 VA inverter is usually enough.
Battery capacity decides how long it runs. A 150 Ah tubular battery is a popular choice for homes with regular power cuts, and a 200 Ah battery gives longer backup. Tubular batteries last longer than flat plate ones but cost more.
Keep the battery topped up with distilled water if it needs it, keep the area ventilated and get it checked once a year. Tell us what you want to run and we will suggest the inverter and battery combination.
